Student Government

Student government teaches teamwork, individual responsibility, leadership and speaking up for what you believe in. Port View Preparatory® is proud to offer a new elective student government program for those interested from each class. The designated members will help lead student government and will delegate positions according to their interests and talents for the following roles: president, vice president, campus chair, events chair, secretary and classroom representative. The groups will meet monthly to discuss needs and will help make decisions about assemblies, items the school should purchase for the campus, CBI ideas and more.
If your child enjoys the following activities, then he/she should consider joining Port View Preparatory®’s student government program:

The Benefits of Student Government Participation

Student government can be a great confidence builder for kids with a range of complex challenges. Participation can enhance self-esteem, help students discover their interests and also feel part of a larger community. Being involved in this program also opens the door to meeting different students from various classes, backgrounds and levels of disability, which can only benefit students’ understanding and empathy.
Following are the roles and responsibilities for student government positions:

  • President: The class president will be in charge of helping run the monthly meetings. This position is great for the outgoing student who will help represent the student body.
  • Vice President: The vice president assists the president in many duties. The vice president also stands in for the president whenever necessary.
  • Campus Chair: The campus chair will be the person in charge of keeping a list of campus activities and will help represent the interests of the student body and administration.
  • Events Chair: The events chair will help in proposing event ideas and also relay school field trips and assemblies to the student body.
  • Secretary: The secretary will help keep records of meetings and student activities, programs and sessions. The person who assumes this position should be organized and like to take notes.
  • Classroom Representative: The classroom representative will be the person who represents the progress and interests of their classroom.
